Hello friends and family! As we settle into fall, my BeatNest birdies have been hard at work, creating original compositions, DJing, synthesizing, and making weird noises into the microphone to play back different speeds. There seems to never be a dull moment and each child has so many different ideas that each session is just as interesting as the last. It’s never too late to reach out to enroll your kids!
If any of you were at the Lenox Apple Squeeze last month, then you know that it was a bit of a drag battling the rain that kept coming and going. As a result, my booth had significantly fewer visitors than I did last year. It was not all bad though! I still had my tried and true customers come back for more as well as some brand new faces. Luckily, I was under my tent which was waterproof, keeping my equipment from getting soaked in the rain. I even had kids come to take shelter in my tent and were able to play with some cool musical instruments while they waited for the rain to stop.
In other news, Things are beginning to warm up at my 10-week Berkshire Music School Program. I have an eclectic group of 10-11-year-olds who are all eager to learn! Luckily, BMS is now providing me with more and more equipment which saves me a bit of hassle from having to lug things back and forth. The future for BMS is looking bright, with the new director in place there are plans to expand the music technology program and provide students with more opportunities for hands-on learning. For now, though, I am happy with my current group, which offers an intimate setting for kids to learn and collaborate. Because this program is much longer than the ones that I am used to doing with BMS, we’ll have many more opportunities to cover a wider range of topics such as performance and sound design!
Lastly, I wanted to mention that I had been accepted into the Berkshire’s EforAll program, which, if you don’t know, is a small cohort of different local businesses who are either looking to grow their existing business or need help launching a startup idea. So far, it has been super fun getting to meet owners of other businesses around Berkshire County and creating a small network of colleagues! I have also had the pleasure of attending classes where business professionals from the area have come to share their expertise and work with us one-on-one. Every week I meet with two mentors who act as my board of advisors where they can offer insight into BeatNest as a company and I can get their input on various topics. Speaking of which I would love for all of you parents out there to fill out this brief survey which I have made to collect data about the Berkshire’s community needs!
